The Nair Service Society (NSS), synonymous with selfless service and social commitment, was founded by the late Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan on October 31, 1914. It emerged during a crucial period in the history of the Nair community, which was plagued by disunity and the rigid adherence to outdated customs, beliefs, and practices. Although the Nair community had a glorious past, centuries of ignorance and inadequate education proved disastrous.
Their love for grand celebrations and ceremonial occasions, driven by a tendency towards extravagance, further contributed to their decline. The community faced gradual loss of land holdings, underemployment, and unemployment due to a lack of modern education, which accelerated their disintegration. NSS was established to address these issues and work towards the upliftment and unity of the Nair community through various social, educational, and economic initiatives.
